Sibylle Mahni

Masterclass Horn

Sibylle Mahni completed her studies with Prof. Marie-Luise Neunecker at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, earning her concert exam diploma.  
During her studies, she was a scholarship recipient of the "German National Academic Foundation" and "Villa Musica," and won numerous international competitions, including a prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.  

From 1997 to 2016, she served as principal horn in the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra.  

In addition to her orchestral career, Mahni has taught as a lecturer at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and as a professor at the music universities in Mainz, Saarbrücken, and Würzburg. In the winter semester of 2020/21, she was appointed Professor of Horn at the Berlin University of the Arts "Hanns Eisler," succeeding her former teacher, Prof. Marie-Luise Neunecker.  

As part of her teaching activities, she has conducted masterclasses at prestigious institutions such as the International Horn Symposium in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the Jerusalem Music Academy, the Seefeld Music Days in Tyrol, Villa Musica, and Forum Artium, among others.  

Mahni has performed as a soloist with numerous major orchestras, including the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, Munich Symphony Orchestra, International Bach Academy Stuttgart, Württemberg Chamber Orchestra, and Britten Sinfonia. She has worked with renowned conductors such as Oleg Caetani, Toshiyuki Kamioka, and Helmuth Rilling. Her international solo engagements have taken her to countries such as Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Croatia, China, and the United States.  

She is deeply passionate about chamber music and has appeared at renowned festivals, including the "Spannungen" Chamber Music Festival in Heimbach, the Moritzburg Festival, the Hitzacker Summer Music Days, and the Albert Music Festival "Jahrhundertklang" in Freiburg.  

Her chamber music collaborators include prominent musicians such as Christian Tetzlaff, Isabelle van Keulen, Kirill Gerstein, Lars Vogt, and Sharon Kam. She has also participated in premieres of chamber works by composers such as Jörg Widmann, Brett Dean, and Detlev Glanert.  

Since 2014, Sibylle Mahni has been a member of the Ma’alot Wind Quintet.
