Laura Szabo

Born in 1993 in Baja, Hungary, Laura Szabo began studying cello at the age of six.

She entered her first cello competition at the age of seven, and since then her achievements as a soloist have included 1st prizes at the„Talents for Europe competition in Dolni Kubin, Slovakia (2006), at the Antonio Janigro competition in Porec, Croatia (2006), at Gorizia Italy (2007), at the Janos Starker National Competition in Kecskemét, Hungary (2008), at Liezen, Austria (2008) and at the David Popper competition in Várpalota, Hungary (2010).

Laura made her orchestral debut as a solist at the age of 15 with the Szekszard Chamber Orchestra in Hungary. Since then, she frequently performs with different orchestras in her country and had recently a concert tour with the national orchestra of Moldavia in Spain.

In the autumn of 2010, Laura joined Natalia Shakhovskaya’s class at the prestigious Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid, Spain. Besides her academic studies she had the opportunity of participating in the masterclasses of such world-renowned artists as Frans Helmerson, Phillip Muller, Natalia Gutman, Lluis Claret, David Geringas, Truls Mork, Alexander Rudin, just to name a few.

Laura is as well a passionate and experienced chamber musician. In the season of 2014/2015 her piano trio won the ’Más Sobresaliente’ prize of the year and they are invited to play in the national radio of Spain, in the Foundation Juan March and Foundation Botin in Santander.

Laura was part of the third season of the Fundation Louis Vuitton Classe d'Excellence with Gautier Capucon.
At the present she is studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theatre in München with professor Wen-Sinn Yang.
